Front Cover Draft 1 w/ Positive/Negative Peer Feedback

Positive:
  1. Good image with shadow.
  2. Image looks good with guitar.
  3. The image is good.

Negative:
  1. Rub out background near hair properly.
  2. Skin looks too edited.
  3. It doesn't look real with the hair.
  4. The font style needs to change.
  5. It doesn't look real.
  6. Keep looking at existing mags.
  7. Price.
  8. Date.

I had quite vague positive feedback, as was some of my negative feedback, but other parts I already knew after going over it myself (Price, Date, Hair background). I don't think I really learned anything to work on from this feedback, other than what I already knew.

Test Photoshoot (Unedited)

This is the first of my test photoshoots:

This one is quite bad, as I managed to catch the overhead light in, so maybe I should have had my model step forward more.

I don't really like this photo because I've caught the glare of the the overhead light again.

This one is no good because I must have moved slightly as I took the photo.

Again, I managed to catch the overhead light.

While I managed to catch the glare of the overhead light again, I think it gives him quite an angelic light above and behind him.

I managed to catch the top above the blank paper, but it could be edited out, so it isn't a complete loss.

This picture is too yellow unfortunately, as it is a good picture otherwise.

Again managed to catch the glare of the top light, which may be able to be edited out, but it may not be able to be.

On this one, it looks like he has a black eye on his left eye.

Again, this photo turned out yellow, so this is no good.

The backdrop paper is crumpled here, which could be used, but it wouldn't be able to be Photoshopped out without a lot of hassle.

I got all the chairs and tables in the background, so, obviously, this picture is no good to use as it has the combination of the chairs and tables, and the white backdrop paper. If I just had one or the other, then it would be better.

Indie Genre Artists

Focus Group

A Focus Group session I held for my Music Magazine.

There are 11 questions. They are as follows:
  • Would you rather a magazine online, or have a printed one to read from?
  • What price would you expect to pay for your music magazine?
  • What genre of music magazine would you buy?
  • What kind of music do you listen to?
  • What attracts you to a magazine in general?
  • What would encourage you to buy a music magazine?
  • Would you rather find out about music by reading magazines, or looking on the internet?
  • In what shops would you expect to find a music magazine?
  • What features do you look for in a magazine in general?
  • What features would you look for in a music magazine specifically?
  • What kinds of things would you associate with a music magazine in general?

Music Genre Mood Board

College Magazine Evaluation

The first problem I encountered was that the picture I chose for the background image had the model on the wrong side for the more conventional Left Third Coverlines. It would have been fine the less conventional Right Third Coverlines, but as mentioned, they are less conventional, and usually rare to find. To overcome this problem, I horizontally flipped the image in Photoshop.

I think I used House Styles effectively; I used the Comic Sans MS throughout the entire cover, which shows consistency. I also used the same font colours (Black and White) for the Coverlines, but this did not turn out so well for all of the Coverlines, as some of the words were hard to read.

I also think I used a Splash effectively to show an offer included inside, which is relevant to students, because money off of anything is always good, especially for those who are lower down in their jobs, earning less.
