Existing College Magazine Analysis (LIIAR: Part L)

They have the Masthead telling you which magazine it is, this allows current readers to pick it up easily, or alerting possible future readers as to what is contained within along with the font, which is house styled to be either the same, or extremely similar.

Each of the coverlines hooks you into reading more, for example “He Better Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” it makes you wonder what he has done to deserve to go to hell and pulls you in.
The shot also focuses on the girl in the middle, while blurring out the background trees and grass, which could mean that she has something to do with one of the inside stories, or maybe she’s a reporter. Maybe she’s the editor or maybe she has nothing to do with anything. “Read on to find out!” it seems to say.

It was released in “Fall 2009” which tells us that it is a seasonal magazine, not a daily, weekly or even monthly magazine, which means that it is cheaper to produce than one that is weekly or daily, which means they can publish it for free. This convention is commonly used by magazines to allow readers to gauge how long it will be until another edition comes out.

It doesn’t have a selling line, or Anchorage, which a lot of magazines have, which could be a downside in the way that they can only sell themselves by using the name “College”.

The red top could link to the House Style because it’s the same sort of red as the Masthead.

The “i<3smu” on the girl’s top links to one of the coverlines, which states that there is someone called “Nastia Liukin on SMU’s Campus” which means that she could be this Miss Liukin, kindling the readers interest again, and hooking them further in.
